Nearly every sports bet builds on three foundational bet types. Understanding these three unlocks the rest of the sportsbook menu.
Moneyline
The simplest bet: pick which team wins outright, no point margin involved. Odds reflect each team’s implied probability — favorites pay less than your stake, underdogs pay more.
Point Spread
The sportsbook sets a margin designed to make both sides equally attractive. A favorite might be “-6.5,” meaning they must win by 7 or more for a spread bet to cash; the underdog at “+6.5” covers by losing by 6 or less, or winning outright.
Totals (Over/Under)
Instead of picking a winner, you bet on whether the combined score of both teams will go over or under a number set by the sportsbook.
