Three Card Poker: How to Play and Best Strategy

Three Card Poker is one of the fastest table games in the casino, combining a simple ante-and-play structure with a distinct hand ranking system built around just three cards.

Hand Rankings Are Different Here

Because there are only three cards, a straight actually outranks a flush — the opposite of standard poker — since straights are statistically rarer in a three-card hand.

How to Play

After the ante, you look at your three cards and decide to fold or make a “play” bet equal to your ante. The dealer then reveals their hand; if it doesn’t have at least a Queen high, the ante pays automatically and the play bet pushes.

Optimal Strategy

The mathematically correct strategy is simple: play any hand of Q-6-4 or better, fold anything worse. This single rule gets you close to the game’s built-in house edge of about 3.4% on the ante-play bet combination.
